{"id":1746,"date":"2022-07-13T16:21:48","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T20:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/?p=1746"},"modified":"2022-07-14T13:55:56","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T17:55:56","slug":"what-can-pef-do-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-6\/what-can-pef-do-for-you\/","title":{"rendered":"What can PEF do for you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve always loved that UPS slogan.\u00a0 So straightforward and easy to remember.\u00a0 \u201cWhat can Brown do for you?\u201d That\u2019s the inspiration behind <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-6\/pef-revitalizing-health-safety-committees-to-protect-you-on-the-job\/\">this month\u2019s cover story<\/a>.\u00a0 In the months ahead, we\u2019re going to feature a different PEF department each issue, with the goal of educating new members about what their union can do for them and reminding longtime members where to turn when they need help.\u00a0 First up is\u00a0PEF Health &amp; Safety, which helped thousands of you during the pandemic.\u00a0 But in addition to their ongoing work advocating for COVID precautions in the workplace, they perform dozens of other roles for PEF members \u2013 from workplace violence assessments to ergonomic evaluations and so much more.\u00a0 PEF members often work in dangerous environments and PEF Health &amp; Safety exists to help protect them on the job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Speaking of PEF members on the job, my fellow statewide officers visited hundreds of them in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-6\/statewide-officers-hitting-the-road-across-the-state\/\">Region 5\u00a0last month<\/a>.\u00a0 The Statewide Leadership Tour continues in Regions 1-3 in August and I\u2019m looking forward to meeting many more members and hearing their concerns.\u00a0 Members in those regions please keep an eye on your personal email and RSVP if you can attend.\u00a0 That will help us make sure we have enough food and PEF swag on hand for everyone!\u00a0 All you need to do is bring your questions and concerns.\u00a0 I speak for all the statewide officers when I say these face-to-face meetings are invaluable when it comes to plotting the strategy of our union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">I\u2019d also like to point out a profile in this issue of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-6\/pef-research-scientist-spearheads-efforts-to-improve-mental-health-treatment-by-addressing-racism-in-the-field\/\">Dr. Crystal Lewis<\/a>, a PEF member at the Nathan Kline Institute in Rockland County.\u00a0 She is doing groundbreaking work in the field of mental health, studying the effects of stigma and discrimination on individuals in disadvantaged communities who suffer from mental health problems.\u00a0 It is truly an honor to lead this union of professionals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">I wish all PEF members a healthy and happy summer and hope you find some time to relax with family and friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In Unity,<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Wayne Spence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve always loved that UPS slogan.\u00a0 So straightforward and easy to remember.\u00a0 \u201cWhat can Brown do for you?\u201d That\u2019s the inspiration behind <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-6\/pef-revitalizing-health-safety-committees-to-protect-you-on-the-job\/\">this month\u2019s cover story<\/a>.\u00a0 In the months&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"division":[],"allowed_regions":[],"allowed_divisions":[],"class_list":["post-1746","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","issue-volume-40-no-6"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.6 (Yoast SEO v27.9) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>What can PEF do for you?
