This update of the September Communicator has a couple stories I want to point out off the top. First, have you heard of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program?\u00a0 If not, and if you have student loans,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/time-is-running-out-to-apply-for-student-loan-forgiveness-under-temporary-pslf-waiver\/\">please check out this story about an important deadline<\/a> at the end of next month. PEF Membership Benefits also has a great new option for\u00a0members <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/new-free-trauma-counseling-benefit-offered-to-pef-members\/\">seeking trauma counseling<\/a>\u00a0I encourage you to check out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">Labor Day is a few weeks in the rear view mirror at this point, but it was great to see so many smiling faces at the Albany, Massena, Rochester and Syracuse parades.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/hundreds-march-in-annual-albany-labor-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"0\">We feature a write-up of the largest gathering<\/a>, the Capital District Labor Parade, in this issue, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/LaborDayParade-Photos.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\">dozens of photos<\/a>\u00a0from the other celebrations across the State.\u00a0 I also want to point out\u00a0this cool video\u00a0we created from the Albany event.\u00a0 Those of you who were there probably noticed the guy with the funny helmet cam riding his hoverboard.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/750118996\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"2\">This is the kind of video you get when you do that sort of thing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">It is time now for PEF to focus on the 44<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0annual Convention, to be held Oct. 23-26 in Niagara Falls.\u00a0 Planning has been underway for months and I\u2019m looking forward to another great gathering as we conduct the vital business of our union together.\u00a0 At this month\u2019s Executive Board meeting, members voted to hold the 2023 and 2024 Conventions in Syracuse.\u00a0 The board also approved PEF\u2019s political endorsements for the General Election in November.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/executive-board-discusses-convention-improving-the-dental-benefit-and-efforts-to-increase-membership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"3\">We have complete coverage of the board meeting in this issue<\/a>, as well as copies of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/2022-amendments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"4\">two\u00a0Constitutional Amendments<\/a>\u00a0that will be considered at Convention, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/2022-audited-financial-statements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"5\">PEF\u2019s audited financial statements<\/a>, as required by PEF policy this time of year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">We also have the second installment in our \u201cWhat Can PEF Do For You?\u201d series, featuring the hard-working men and women of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/pef-organizing-is-on-the-ground-every-day-supporting-and-advocating-for-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"6\">PEF Organizing<\/a>.\u00a0 I spent a lot of time on the road with them these last few months during the Statewide Officers Tour, and I can truly say they work extremely hard to engage and thank members.\u00a0 Nothing we do is more important.\u00a0 If you ever have a chance to help them out at your worksite or in your region, please do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\">Thanks for reading and I wish you all a safe and healthy start to the Fall.<\/p>\n<p>In Unity,<br \/>\nWayne Spence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Fall to my PEF family!
