{"id":2128,"date":"2022-10-17T11:01:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T15:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/?p=2128"},"modified":"2022-11-04T15:43:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-04T19:43:57","slug":"niagara-falls-here-we-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/no-issue\/niagara-falls-here-we-come\/","title":{"rendered":"Niagara Falls, here we come!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">The October Communicator is coming to you just days before more than 500 delegates gather at the Niagara Falls Convention Center for the union\u2019s 44<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Convention.\u00a0 PEF is unique in the New York labor movement \u2013 holding a convention each year, per Article XVI of the PEF Constitution: \u201cThe Convention shall meet once annually between September 1st and November 30th at a time and place determined by the Executive Board\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">It will be my eighth as your president and I\u2019m looking forward to reviewing the year\u2019s accomplishments and helping chair the plenary sessions as delegates set the agenda for the year to come.\u00a0 We have so much to be thankful for, and first on that list is an active, engaged membership that is committed to making sure PEF remains a powerful force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-8\/state-pay-equity-study-validates-pefs-long-time-argument-that-nursing-titles-are-undervalued\/\">The lead story in this issue is something that has been decades in the making \u2013 Nurse Title Restructuring<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0It is a long-awaited major step toward pay equity for the State\u2019s hardworking nurses.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to thank all of PEF\u2019s nurses who helped advocate on the issue and the PEF Civil Service Enforcement\/Research department for their persistence.\u00a0 This was a long time coming and I truly believe it will make a difference in the recruitment and retention of nurses in New York.\u00a0 It also sets an important precedent.\u00a0 There are plenty of other PEF titles that need restructuring and we plan to push for change in those areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">Speaking of change, negotiations for a successor contract will begin next month for members in the Professional, Scientific &amp; Technical (PS&amp;T) bargaining unit.\u00a0 Our Contract Team has been training for months and is analyzing all the data collected from the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSckU5DU3GPxbIY-QK_xnKt61p9RLbFXTreDo3TCyMbkFp_EVw\/viewform\">Contract Survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month and in that spirit we have a <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-8\/roswell-park-members-stand-by-breast-cancer-patients-every-step-of-the-way\/\">feature in this issue<\/a> about a nurse practitioner at Roswell Park who helps patients every day during the most frightening time in their lives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">Looking ahead, don\u2019t forget to vote on November 8!\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-40-no-7\/get-ready-to-vote\/\">You can review the list of PEF-endorsed candidates here<\/a> and we have some other useful information in this issue to help you find your polling place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_xxmsonormal\">We\u2019ll be back with an update after Convention.\u00a0 Until then, stay healthy and safe.<\/p>\n<p>In Unity,<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>Wayne Spence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The October Communicator is coming to you just days before more than 500 delegates gather at the Niagara Falls Convention Center for the union\u2019s 44th\u00a0Annual Convention.\u00a0 PEF is unique in&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"division":[],"allowed_regions":[],"allowed_divisions":[],"class_list":["post-2128","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.6 (Yoast SEO v27.9) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Niagara Falls, here we come!
