The PEF Black Caucus held a \u201cmeet and greet\u201d event for its members and their guests at PEF\u2019s 44<\/span>th<\/span> Annual Convention in Niagara Falls last month.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"2022The group took advantage of the occasion to have PEF President Wayne Spence administer the oath of office to the caucus\u2019 officers who were elected earlier in the year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Caucus President Carrie Saunders told of the group\u2019s proud history that began in 1979, when the caucus was founded in the same year that PEF took over as the bargaining agent for New York state\u2019s Professional, Scientific and Technical unit.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the caucus\u2019 Black members continue to be very active in it, Saunders said, \u201cIt\u2019s no longer just for Blacks.\u201d\u00a0 PEF members of other races are welcome to join the group, which relies on the dues its members\u2019 pay to it, rather than on funding from the union.\u00a0 It also raises funds to award scholarships.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
