PEF was in the final stages of planning for that rally when Upstate announced that the merger has been called off.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cUpstate heard us,\u201d Spence said. \u201cIt was our threat of a rally that got us here.\u201d He thanked Upstate nurse and Executive Board member Rachel Amodio-Kopp for advocating for the rally to serve the best interests of her coworkers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The decision assures \u201ceach hospital will remain completely independent and all your privileges, compensation, benefits, union representation, and other aspects of employment will remain as they are,\u201d according to a statement to employees from Upstate President Mantosh Dewan.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cBoth institutions will continue to operate as separate and independent legal entities governed as they are today,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cThe affiliation will provide a structure for joint initiatives on key patient services, educational programs for health care providers and provide a platform for future initiatives.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 17, 2023 &#8212;
