I heard your call for a better dental plan and later this year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-3\/new-dental-plan\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">you\u2019ll have one!<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With just about 10,000 nurses among PEF\u2019s ranks, we know the value they bring to their patients and their community, and we thank them for their dedication and service. May is National Nurses Month, and we\u2019ve gone all out to honor them in this issue, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/nurses-lobby-day\/\">PEF\u2019s <\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/nurses-lobby-day\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nurse Lobby Day<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and the successful campaign to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/joint-telephone-town-hall-updates-members-on-suny-downstate-fightback\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">save SUNY Downstate<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, as well as looking back at the creation of PEF\u2019s nurse organizer position, celebrating PEF nurses <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/clara-shamatanga-balancing-union-family-and-work\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Clara Shamatanga <\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/cynthia-walker-nurse-union-leader-health-care-activist\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Cynthia Walker<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and remembering a pillar of nursing history, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/lavinia-dock-nurse-suffragette-made-invaluable-contributions-to-the-nursing-profession\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lavinia Dock<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On May 1, in a show of strength and courage, members at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center made it very clear that they are done with the bullying and toxicity at the facility. They engaged in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communicator.pef.org\/issue\/volume-42-no-4\/kingsboro\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Day of Action outside Kingsboro<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in Brooklyn, with signs and chants and stories calling out management for creating a toxic work environment.
