These are common union rallying cries \u2013 but they are true in more than just advocacy, workplace protections, and contracts.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On February 2, a water main break in New York City caused devastating flooding that destroyed PEF member Bill Cruz\u2019s basement, including irreplaceable personal items, important documents, and leaving him without heat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBill has lived a life of service to others,\u201d said PEF Executive Board Member Barbara Fahey, who set up a <\/span>GoFundMe<\/span><\/a> to help. \u201cThroughout his state career, Bill has been a friend and advocate for our members, our agency, his community and our country.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cruz has spent more than 50 years working for the federal, state, and local government, as well as his country in the military. His PEF roles are many and varied, from Labor\/Management, health and safety, council leader, steward, a member of the Affirmative Action Committee, the Contract Team, and several other committees.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow, Bill needs our help,\u201d she said. \u201cThe funds will go directly toward cleanup, repairs to his home, and replacing the major appliances and equipment lost in the flood. This is our chance to give back to someone who has given so much of himself.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
