PEF members speak out against parking price hike at SUNY Stony Brook 

Employees at SUNY Stony Brook could soon be facing a parking fee increase from $16.50 to $50, a 242 percent increase. Stony Brook employees who work at the University, Hospital and Cancer Center protested the potential hike in a rally outside a parking garage on April 9. PEF Executive Board Member and Statewide Health and Safety chair Amy Lee Pacholk said that PEF members and Stony Brook employees should not have to pay to go to work.

PEF member joins chorus of workers raising the alarm on Medicaid funding cuts 

Healthcare workers and PEF members gathered at a forum hosted by the New York State AFL-CIO and Capital District Area Labor Federation on April 26 in Albany. U.S. Congressman, who represents Schenectady and Albany County as well as parts of Montgomery, Rensselaer, and Saratoga, was in attendance. Union members and healthcare professionals shared their concerns about the growing threat of government cuts to services, including healthcare and Medicaid. Kim Jensen is a Medical Assistance Specialist for the New York State Department of Health and a PEF Executive Board member. Jensen said that a loss of Medicaid funding makes it more difficult for the State to provide medical care and prevent fraud or abuse of the system.

President Spence quoted in New York State press release and PEF Health and Safety Director attends ceremony honoring Workers’ Memorial Day 

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul marked Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28 by announcing a social media and awareness campaign to continue the conversation around safety at the workplace. 

PEF held a ceremony to remember lives lost and recommit to the cause of worker health and safety at union headquarters. PEF Health and Safety Director Geraldine Stella attended the Department of Labor ceremony in Albany on behalf of the union.
