I worked with Roger Benson at PEF from 1986 through his nine years as president. It has been more than 20 years since his leadership, but we remained friends and I often called him for advice and guidance. He was always there.
He was more than just a union president to me, he was a mentor, a confidante, and a true friend. His genuine kindness and caring touched me in ways I never imagined possible.
Before I met Roger, I never truly understood what a mentor was. Under his wing, I grew beyond what I thought I could. He saw my potential and there is no greater gift he could have given me.
Whenever I made mistakes, he never made me feel bad about them. Instead, he encouraged me to learn and grow, and for that, I am deeply grateful and will miss him.
