July 20, 2026 — The New York State Museum recently opened Revolutionary New York, a new exhibition commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and highlighting New York’s role in shaping democracy in America.
Without the skills and efforts of PEF members, this massive undertaking would not have happened.
“This amazing exhibit is the product of the expertise, dedication and hard work of PEF members at the New York State Museum, along with their CSEA co-workers, and with colleagues in PEF positions in the state library and archives,” said Mickey Dobbin, a research collections technician at the NYSM, Treasurer of Division 194 and Executive Board member.
The nearly 7,000-square-foot exhibition brings together more than 200 artifacts, rare documents, immersive displays, interactive elements, and powerful stories that connect the Revolution’s founding ideals to the continuing pursuit of freedom, equality, justice, and civic responsibility across generations, according to a press release from the State Education Department.
The exhibit includes this Revolutionary War-era gunboat, previously featured in the Communicator, that invites visitors to explore events from the 1763 Treaty of Paris through the War of 1812, highlighting the state’s role in the fight for liberty.
Revolutionary New York is a long-term exhibit on display until July 8, 2029, in the main Exhibition Hall.
