July 20, 2026 — Region 5 is working to energize its Women’s Committee, kicking things off with a meet-and-greet meeting this spring.
“We had a decent turnout,” said Committee Chair Leslie Apacible, who works as a Disability Analyst at the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) in Endicott and leads the PEF Division 399 council there. “We want to provide a space where people can have a common ground for sharing work gripes and stressors or just have conversations.”
Committee members voted to meet quarterly and donate to local charitable organizations in the Binghamton area.
“Our most recent collection was for the Binghamton-based American Civic Association,” Abacible said. “We collected boxes full of needed women’s goods and other supplies for local communities.”
In a thank you letter to the committee, the American Civic Association said: “The ACA relies on kind donors such as yourself to continue with our mission of integrating immigrants into the community, Refugee Social Services Program (RSSP), and Naturalization. Our current focus includes expanding our multicultural programs and services in order to better serve the needs of our diverse community. Your support is important to us and makes it possible to achieve our goals.”
