Summer FunAugust 21, 2026 — Throughout the summer, PEF has been hard at work ensuring members have a fair contract, are informed about their rights, and are engaged with ongoing campaigns against workplace violence and bullying. Throughout it all, the union is also making sure members have a chance to connect with family, friends and fellow union siblings.

In Region 5, that connection took the form of an annual clambake at the popular Mountain Top Grove in Vestal, N.Y. In Region 2, members from PEF Regions 2, 3, 4 and 5 were invited to a boat cruise on Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen.

These events, while serving first as a chance for members to enjoy some time together this summer, also offered union leaders time to talk about the new contract, and answer questions from members about union activities.

“This is a chance to come in, let off some steam and we also want to express our appreciation for the members,” said Region 5 Coordinator Scott Staub. “They do a lot of work, and we want to give back, and this is one way we can.”

Region 5’s clambake included access to both raw and steamed clams, as well as the usual barbecued foods, including hot dogs, burgers, pulled pork and chicken.

The well-attended boat cruise, organized by Region 2 Coordinator Shelby Wisneski for the third year, took attendees on a short trip to the center of Seneca Lake and back to shore. The cruise featured a light brunch while passengers learned about the lake’s history and its importance to New York State industry.

“It is a fun way to meet new people and their families and connect with them,” said Wisneski.

“It is wonderful to be able to bring them all together and have some comradery, for them to meet other people and get them more engaged,” said Region 4 Coordinator Monica Moore. “That’s the name of the game.”

Of course, these are not the only member appreciation events that took place this summer. Members are encouraged to talk to their Council Leaders and Regional Coordinators to stay in the loop and be informed about what’s happening in your neck of the woods no matter the season. As always, please feel free to send photos from any union outings to Comms@pef.org so we can share in future issues of the PEF Communicator and PEF Pulse
